The story of the Road to Emmaus, found in Luke 24:13–35, tells of two disciples walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus on the day of the Resurrection. Along the way, the risen Jesus joins them, though they do not recognize Him. As they share their sorrow over His crucifixion and the mystery of the empty tomb, Jesus explains how the Scriptures foretell the Messiah’s suffering. When they arrive in Emmaus, the disciples invite Him to stay. At supper, Jesus blesses and breaks the bread, and in that moment their eyes are opened — they recognize Him, and He vanishes from their sight.

Inspired by this powerful Gospel account, Fr. Johannes organized the Walk to Emmaus 2025 on Easter Monday, April 21. The Passionist Fathers, together with volunteers and members of various religious communities, came together for this spiritual pilgrimage. The journey began at the Cenacle in Mt. Zion, Jerusalem, leading to Latroun — a distance of 37 kilometers that took about 10 hours to complete.

The walk was both challenging and grace-filled. At the start, we were full of excitement, energy, hope, and faith. The road, however, was far from easy — rocky paths, steep climbs, and the heat of the sun tested our strength and perseverance. Yet, despite the fatigue, no one gave up. Deep within, we carried the conviction that Jesus Himself was walking with us, just as He did with His disciples on that first Easter day.

Finally, with smiles on our faces and joy in our hearts, we reached Emmaus. There, we gathered in thanksgiving and celebrated the Holy Eucharist — the breaking of the bread that reveals Christ among us.

It was truly an amazing and unforgettable experience — a walk of faith, endurance, and encounter with the living Lord. The Walk to Emmaus 2025 was not only a journey on foot, but also a journey of the heart, reminding us that wherever the road may lead, we never walk alone.
