Passionist Volunteers: Pag-asa ng Kapwa Migrante

Heidi Layco

The Advent recollection commenced with a series of reflective songs, establishing a deeply spiritual and contemplative atmosphere. Father Manny Gelez presided, guiding the participants into a season of preparation for the celebration of Christ's birth. The event's theme, "Passionist Volunteers: Pag-asa ng Kapwa Migrante" (Hope for Fellow Migrants), immediately set a tone of compassionate action.

This powerful theme highlighted the crucial role of volunteers in providing essential support and hope to migrants, emphasizing the vital importance of community and compassion in their lives. The Advent season itself, a time of reflection, hope, and anticipation, perfectly complemented this focus. Each week of Advent traditionally emphasizes themes like hope, peace, joy, and love, encouraging introspection on one's faith and the imminent arrival of Christ.

The Passionist order, founded by St. Paul of the Cross in the 18th century, shares a deep resonance with the recollection's theme. Their mission, centered on the Passion of Christ, involves spreading His message of love and sacrifice through dedicated service to the marginalized and a strong commitment to social justice. Compassion, community, and unwavering devotion to the Gospel are core tenets of their beliefs.

The recollection served as a potent reminder of the significance of hope and service, particularly during the Advent season. It prompted participants to contemplate their own contributions to supporting others, especially migrants, and to actively embody the compassionate values of the Passionist community. The event was a moving call to action, inspiring participants to live out their faith through service and empathy.
